Pope Benedict’s response to sex abuse by clergy

Should Pope Benedict XVI be held responsible for the escalating scandals over clerical sexual abuse in Europe? Should he be investigated for cases of abuse that occurred under his watch as archbishop of Munich or as the Vatican’s chief doctrinal enforcer

The Evolution of Religion, on The Really Big Questions

Paul Harvey Can science explain the evolution of religion, or why there is religion at all? The somewhat obscure public radio show The Really Big Questions , hosted by Lynn Neary, explores this. Just caught the show this weekend, and it was a terrific hour of radio which summarizes a lot of the contending thought on applying evolution to the study of religion in human societies

"…the chatter of dominant opinions." The Pope as autocrat

Just a short note on the Roman troubles. The Pope is quoted by the Times of London saying that Christ “helps lead us towards courage which does not allow us to be intimidated by the chatter of dominant opinions.” How’s that for autocratic overkill! The headline reads, Pope: I ‘will not be intimidated’ by sex abuse accusations

Does the Law Teach Us How To Love?

Invariably the reply I receive to my pointing out that God’s eternal law is love and not a laundry list of do’s and don’ts is: “but God’s law teaches us how to love.” Of course, the reference to the law is usually meaning the Ten Commandments specifically (as if they can really be separated from all the rest that Israel said “we will” to).

Benjamin Creme’s Share International/Maitreya Followers Point To Author As ‘Messiah’

This is a rather interesting story — members of the Share International new age/ecumenical cult have set their sights on a London-born author as the fulfillment of their “prophesied” messiah, Maitreya. Benjamin Creme, the cult’s founder, apparently refuses to confirm or deny what some of his followers believe… I’m pointing this out Related posts: !Alert!: Coming of Maitreya ‘The Christ’ A New, More Believable False Christ To Emerge After Christmas

UTO Study Group…an interview with ENS

ENS just published an article on the UTO study group that I am chairing. Here it is: UTO study group reorganizes for triennium Group hopes to build on legacy of ‘thankful giving’ By Mary Frances Schjonberg, March 24, 2010 [Episcopal News Service] Mark Harris, the new chair of the Episcopal Church’s United Thank Offering study group , grew up watching his grandmother put coins into the UTO blue box she kept on her dining room table while she said her daily prayers. It’s that legacy of thankful giving that Harris wants to help UTO build on as the organization that has helped the Episcopal Church expand its mission for the last 120 years by making grants to ministries that address human needs faces the 21st century.

Video: Mr. John Piper On The ‘White, Fading’ Emergent Church

I don’t get too much into the heretics unless I come across something really disgusting and offensive to the LORD our GOD (I would get dizzy trying to follow them all). The so-called emergent church movement is one heretical movement I try not to pay too much attention to (although I do follow Mr. Ken Related posts: Videos: Dr

What Caminante Said… Where is the Anglican Communion’s focus of unity focused?

Caminante asks a rhetorical question : Why does Mary Glasspool’s receiving consents garner a comment from the Archbishop of Canterbury almost instantaneously (they must have had the text pre-written for either scenario) whereas when one of the 38 primates of the Anglican Communion nearly loses his life in an assassination attempt that results in his driver being gravely injured we hear nothing? She asked that several days ago and now has gone herself to El Salvador on behalf of Fundación Cristosal, foundation for the support of the Anglican Episcopal Church of El Salvador. May Canon Lee Crawford have a safe trip and be a sign of our care and love for Archbishop Martín Barahona
