Garden Detective: Cycad scale feasts on sago palms

Over the last couple of years, our sago palm has started getting blotchy yellow spots. It is planted near a swimming pool but doesn’t get any water splashed on it. We have another sago in a pot on the side of our house that shows similar discoloration.

Pope urges sensitivity in changing Mass

P ope Benedict XVI warned that a forthcoming new English translation of the Catholic Mass could provoke “confusion or bewilderment” among worshippers if not “introduced with due sensitivity.” Benedict made his remarks this week during lunch with a committee of English-speaking bishops from five continents, who have worked for almost a decade with the Vatican’s liturgy office on preparing the new translation.

W henever there has been a crisis in the world, from 9/11 to events in the Middle East, no one group in the metro area has been able to speak for the local Muslim community. The newly formed Midland Islamic Council wants to change that. And it also has other ambitious goals, such as unifying the various Muslim groups in the area.
