The Associated Press has a story about three Church of England bishops who traveled to Rome last week to discuss the possibility of joining with the Catholic Church : Rev. Keith Newton, the bishop of Richborough, said the trip consisted of “nothing more than exploratory talks” and denied a report in The Sunday Telegraph that he and his colleagues had secretly promised the Vatican they were ready to defect to Rome. And, before we discuss that excerpt, let’s look at the headline: “British bishops in defection talks with Vatican.” Defection?

LONDON: A new gurdwara is coming up in Manchester at a cost of two million pounds to cater to the religious needs of the growing numbers of Sikh worshippers living in the area. The Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Gurdwara Temple is being built on the premises of a former car parts warehouse demolished earlier this month. The site is close to the current place of worship which will be retained for community activities

In In re Z.S., (OH Ct. App., May 3, 2010), an Ohio appellate court rejected the claim that parents’ free exercise rights and their right to control the education of their six children were infringed by a Juvenile Court’s determination that the children were neglected and dependent.

An Illinois federal district court last week issued yet another decision in the long running litigation against a suburban Chicago school district over its attempt to prevent two Christian students from wearing a T-shirt carrying the slogan “Be Happy, Not Gay” as their participation in “Day of Truth,” an event set up to counter the LGBT “Day of Silence” event. In 2008, the 7th Circuit granted a preliminary injunction limited to allowing student Alexander Nuxoll to wear the T-shirt for that year’s event

Debt-ridden Punjabi farmer jumps before train, dies

Moga, Punjab: A debt-ridden septuagenarian farmer allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a goods train near railway station at Moga late last night. His body was recovered by the railway police this morning. Jagjit Singh, son of the deceased farmer identified as Saggar Singh, resident of Raunta village of Nihal Singh Wala subdivision, in a statement recorded before the railway police, alleged that his father had committed suicide after an arhtiya Jagat Singh tried to take possession of their agricultural land last morning
