by Cristiano Rubbi* It’s 12 noon and you’re in Rome, but are you in the central part of Rome? Let’s make the assumption that having people really listen is a positive thing. Now let’s consider some examples of “switch on” phrases and consider the implications for our preaching: “How does this apply to us?” – People do tend to listen more when the message is about them, their lives, their needs, etc. We could critique that theologically and point to the self-obsession of humanity. Or we could be thankful that all Scripture is both God-breathed and “useful” – i.e. life changing. And then we could stop leaving application to the last three minutes of a message and look for ways to include it throughout. Compare and contrast an introduction infused with relevance and applicational preparation for the message to follow, with the standard switch off phrase “Last week we were deep in 2Chronicles 17, please turn with me to 2Chronicles 18 . .

I know that I do. I’ve not been writing as much. Sure, here and there in my little journal, but not on here. Please know that it’s not that I don’t have anything to say, because I do. I always have too much to say. Part of my charm. In fact, people worry when I stop talking. Like the other day, the boy was teasing me and I said, “Ok, that’s it, I’m not talking anymore.” And do you know that I didn’t talk for twenty whole minutes? It was difficult, but I’m stubborn and try as he might

More Liberty Costs of Obamacare: House sources indicated to us today that patients would likely not be allowed to purchase a provider’s services privately and outside of any “approved” insurance scheme. Even though such a private-pay provision had reportedly been accepted by Education and Labor Committee chair George Miller, such relief will likely not survive in the final, manager’s version. Nor will there likely be a provision allowing a provider who had objections to abortion to refuse to
