The days ahead in the land of the dissatisfied: South Carolina, Albany, and points west…

At General Convention there was an air of cordial despair among some of the deputies and bishops from the Communion Partners block – those dioceses and bishops who were intent on continuing as part of the Anglican Communion (marked by continuing the moratoria) and maintaining what the considered to be Anglican faith and values within the Episcopal Church. No one spoke openly of next steps,

The Roving Paramedics – Episode 3

All right.  Now we’ve got Episode 3 of the Roving Paramedics ( further explanation of “The Roving Paramedics” is available along with Episode 1 ).  I had some issues with uploading the video file to YouTube, so this a compressed version of the video — magnifying some of the issues with visual quality — but at least you get to see the whole video this way (and not just the first 4:42 of it, like the previous two attempts at the three-hour upload process left it!).   When this video first c

Abortion and health care

Terry highlighted one of the more glaring holes in some of the stories covering the public health insurance debate. There have been some other problems with the media’s look at the abortion debate. Last week the Associated Press had a piece about how pro-life House Democrats oppose the leadership’s health care bill because under it, taxpayer funds could be used for abortions: Abortion is not mentioned in the 1,018-page bill that Democratic leaders hope will be approved by the last of three House committees this week

First Nation Community Church/Inner-city Mission – Day 2

We didn’t have to get up at 6:30 am today so that was AWESOME! We all stayed at our different billets and met at the church at 9 am and prepared for the day. Amy led a great Bible Study this morning and then after lunch we launched into VBS Day 2!! These kids have immense amounts of energy and I have been supremely blessed by the patience and joy that the team members are showing!   Helen is making wonderful connections with the moms today and they are developing in relationship with one

Another Muslim PR nightmare

If you thought the story of Bryant Neal Vinas , the Long Island Muslim convert who joined Al Qaeda and quickly rose through the ranks before being arrested last fall, was bad for Muslim public relations, the news emerging today of a North Carolina Muslim gang is a PR nightmare. Not helping the situation is the way in which the indictment of these seven individuals, who allegedly planned to wage “violent jihad,” is being reported. This, for example, comes from a relatively short story from The Washington Post : At the center of the ring is Daniel P.

Big Profits, Small Losses, Pastor Chris Harper

We are enjoying such a terrific summer of blessings in our worship gatherings.  Sunday was “spot on!”  Pastor Jim’s message from 2 Corinthians 4 brought us such enormous encouragement (the sermon is already uploaded online).  I hope you’ll consider forwarding it to a friend- it might be just the “thrive” message he or she needs to hear this week.    You’re not alone.  If you’ve been feeling perplexed, unsure why things are what they are, or surrounded by troubles, be encouraged in knowing the

Worship Confessional – Sunday, July 26, 2009

Alright – Fred’s throwing a big birthday party so I thought I’d join in! This past Sunday at OBC we were talking about the cost of following Jesus – the ‘not-so-fine print’ that He tells us about. We walked through Luke 9 and read the story of the three guys who each have different reasons for not following Jesus in that moment. At the end of the message we were reminded that following Jesus and calling others to follow Him could look like this – Proximity – not just living close to peo

Memorial Project still helping the hijacker fix his disguise – Blogburst

Thanks to Error Theory : After denying for 4 years that the Crescent of Embrace memorial to Flight 93 will contain 44 inscribed memorial panels (equaling the number of passengers, crew, AND terrorists) the Memorial Project has announced a new design that appears to collapse three of the panels into one: Artist’s depiction of the slightly altered design for the Sacred Ground Plaza. [If you are a newcomer, the Plaza sits in the position o f the star on architect Paul Murdoch’s
