I want him to be burned alive!

With the Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Amir Kasab caught alive and the hearing going on there is so much hatred towards the terrorist and Pakistan as a country in the minds of Indians. ‘I want him to be burned alive’ was the statement I overhead from a group who was discussing on what should be done with this terrorist. Another guy was heard saying ‘All Muslims should be shipped off to Pakistan because they don’t deserve to live in a country like India’.

The rest is here:

Are we treating the foreign tourists who visit our country right?

India has the reputation of treating the guests like God. We take pride on indian hospitality  and say ‘Aditi Devo Bhava’ which means that a guest is like God. But are we treating the countless tourists (our guests) who visit our country every year right?

Shoot us both Mr. Spock

I once was inclined to reject everything HWA said just because he said it; but I eventually came to the place where should I come to a similar conclusion independently, I wouldn’t automatically hit the reset button, and demand another solution. It’s helpful for me to realize that HWAs idea’s were rarely his own; he was just a very good liar, and unashamed when he took credit. One idea is the way of looking at the statement of Jesus: Many will come in my name saying I am Christ, and shall deceive many.

Quote of Note: Abraham

Many people speak of unconditional love but rarely live it. Instead, when they see a condition that causes them to feel negative emotions, they demand a change in the condition; but in doing so, they set themselves on a long and uncomfortable path of attempting to control others in order to feel good. When controlling others is necessary in order for you to feel good, you must confine yourself to a very small world over which you can gain control, and then you must give more time and energy than you possess to this impossible effort.

Marriage Equality & Religion: The Massachusetts Experience

One of the most dominant myths used by forces opposed to marriage equality is that allowing same-sex couples to marry would somehow negatively affect religious institutions or apply restrictions to their freedom to worship as they choose. Although this myth is patently false, that has not stopped some opponents from using the claim to lead people to believe their religious freedom is in danger. Fortunately, in New York, we do not need to speculate on how religious institutions, spiritual …

What right do we have to complain when we have not Voted?

These days there is so much of awareness campaigns everywhere regarding the Elections which definitely is going to have a positive influence in the society. I especially like this advertisement on TV where it says that even when we buy vegetables we choose carefully then why are we not careful about choosing those who would represent our country. Many still think voting is a waste of time.

What Is The Gospel?

Herbert Armstrong often said something to the effect of, ” This world’s so-called Christianity has taken the name of Christ — has proclaimed to the world that Jesus of Nazareth was the Christ — has preached the name of Christ with a Message about His Person — but they have rejected His Gospel — the Gospel God sent for all mankind by Him — the Gospel He taught .” -Herbert Armstrong, ” The Wonderful World Tomorrow – What Will It Be Like “, 1979 edition. Over this past year, I have come to understand and know without a doubt that Herbert Armstrong was in error on his doctrine and teachings in a great many places and ways.

Notre Dame’s Laetare Medalist, and Catholic Women’s Identity

Notre Dame’s Laetare Medalist by Kathleen Sprows Cummings In the midst of the controversy surrounding the invitation to President Barack Obama, few people have remarked on the other person slated to address Notre Dame’s class of 2009: Mary Ann Glendon, winner of this year’s Laetare Medal. The Laetare Medal, regarded by some as “the most prestigious award conferred annually on American Catholics,” was instituted in 1883 to honor a person whose witness to the Catholic faith has shaped his or her public endeavors. Let me state upfront that Glendon is an accomplished and faithful woman who well deserves this honor.

Jared Farmer’s On Zion’s Mount Wins Parkman Prize

Last week Harvard University Press announced that Jared Farmer’s book has won the Francis Parkman Prize. Well deserved indeed . Jared Farmer has been honored with the Francis Parkman Prize by The Society of American Historians for his 2008 book On Zion’s Mount: Mormons, Indians, and the American Landscape , which details how Mormon settlers in Utah endowed their new homeland with a spiritual geography—how they made themselves “native” in a strange land—and how their effort to confer meaning on their new dwelling place came at the expense of the Utes they displaced, people whom, ironically enough, they considered their “spiritual kin.” Farmer, Assistant Professor of History at The State University of New York at Stony Brook , shows how this pattern, this imbuing of the American landscape with “Indian” lore that hadn’t existed until Euro-American settlers showed up, was repeated time and time again across the United States, and how the legacy of these cultural acts remains with us today

Holy Mavericks

Below is the announcement for our contributing editor Phil Sinitiere’s new book, written with co-author Shayne Lee. _________________________________________________ Holy Mavericks: Evangelical Innovators and the Spiritual Marketplace “Introduces us to some of the most prominent religious innovators in the United States today—‘savvy spiritual suppliers,’ as the authors say—who are skilled at recalibrating their messages and ministries to fit particular audiences. Religious scholars will welcome the attention given to cultural themes in the analysis, and the emphasis on more than just individual choice; general readers will be enthralled by the creativity of the producers but also appalled at the captivity of religious faith to contemporary culture.”–Wade Clark Roof, University of California at Santa Barbara Table of Contents Introduction Joel Osteen, Paula White, T

Sowulo’s Merkstave? – The dark side of the Sun (Sowelu, Sowilo)

Sowilo by artist Tom Waters (used with permission) Sowulo and six of the other twenty-four Elder Futhark runes have no reverse position, or Merkstave . This does not mean they are simpler than the other seventeen, nor that their most commonly accepted meanings should be taken for granted.  There is another side to these seven - a ”shadow” which the experienced diviner or astute student can draw much meaning from. Today we’ll discuss the shadow side of Sowulo . Though not yet proven by science, human beings require sustenance of spirit in addition to that provided by food, water, and air.
