August 19, 2009 in Uncategorized I’ve been quite swamped lately. Summer is supposed to be a slow, relaxed time. But I find that that thought only serves to deceive me and make me mad that life didn’t slow down as I had assumed it would. I’m very involved at church right now.I lead an adult growth group that studies the Redemption Story. We are reading through the Bible and seeing God’s redemptive plan throughout. We have already read through Genesis and we are now on Exodus. That is time c

Building Character for Life
In United States v. Hovind , (ND FL, July 29, 2009), a Florida federal district court permitted the federal government to move ahead with its criminal forfeiture of properties that make up Dinosaur Adventure Land (as well as related bank accounts) to cover back taxes of Christian evangelist Kent Hovind. Hovind is serving a 10 year prison sentence for failing to deduct payroll taxes for the employees of his Creation Science Evangelism organization.

Scratch a right-wing argument against publicly-funded health care and it gives off a distinctive smell, namely: 1) It is rare to encounter a right-wing argument against what they label “socialized” health care that doesn’t translate, term for term, into an equally valid argument against privately-funded health insurance. Very nearly everything they rage against in the prospect of tax-funded health care happens as a matter of daily routine among private insurers and those they insure. 2) It is even rarer — indeed, I would say rare to the point of non-existent — to encounter a right-wing argument against what they label “socialized” health care that doesn’t translate, term for term, into an equally valid argument against the Veteran’s Administration, Medicare, and Medicaid.
