A Chronolgical banner of the bible and handy reading

A Chronolgical banner of the bible and handy reading & study aids. In our Bible class two or 3 or so years past, a participant who had been a Studious believer and ministerd well in the church for many long years, voiced this announcement, “Ok, then again, Abraham kept the Sinaitic law and so he grasped with reference to……” (she really was not contemplating the pre-mosaic laws). I muse over just how many christians can in point of fact be aware of the blooper in this assertion

The Great Starbucks Masquerade

Heads up, Blighty, there’s a new plan brewing at Starbucks HQ over there in Seattle, and it probably won’t be long before they test the water over here with it! In areas where people have been reluctant to visit their monotonous coffee shops, they’re going for a rebranding, an attempt to appear like the indy coffee shop many people seem to be craving. You can read all about this new idea here and see their site here. The idea appears simple enough; if people won’t sup, create a brand new brand f

Preachers are Theologians not Therapists

Following on from yesterday’s post, I found the following quote quite insightful: The rise of therapeutic concerns within the culture means that many pastors, and many of heir church members, believe that the pastoral calling is best understood as a “helping profession.”  As such, the pastor is seen as someone who functions in a therapeutic role in which theology is often seen as more of a problem than a solution.

Examining the Ministry – The Example of Paul

We are given very little evidence of the role of a minister in the Apostolic Church (the Church governed by the Apostles, as found in the New Testament) so we must turn to the single person who gave us our pastoral examples – the Apostle Paul.I want to highlight a few of Paul’s more pastoral passages -We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed– always carrying about in the body the dying o

“A burden from God which they must carry” by Dietrich Bonhoeffer

“Over the destiny of woman and of man lies the dark shadow of a word of God’s wrath, a burden from God, which they must carry. The woman must bear her children in pain, and in providing for his family the man must reap many thorns and thistles, and labor in the sweat of his brow. This burden should cause both man and wife to call on God, and should remind them of their eternal destiny in His kingdom

Another story from the DR Mission Trip

Cheryl, another member of the DR Mission trip team, beautifully shared the story of Emilia, one of the ladies we met in Santa Rosa de Bani.  Emilia attended both the teacher workshops at the beginning of the week as well as the women’s retreat at the end of the week.  Here is what Cheryl shared… “Have you ever been walking along the streets of life just to have bus come out of nowhere and flatten you before you knew what happened? Or perched in your happy home when all of a sudden your feet ar

ALERT! Radical Feminists, Homosexuals, and Abortionists are Taking Over

“Radical Feminists, Homosexuals and Abortionists are taking over and The Family and National Sovereignty are under threat!”  This seemed to be the mantra of several morning sessions on the third and final day of the World Congress of Families V (WCF) in Amsterdam, Netherlands.  All good advocacy has a good dose of theatrics – or at least it ought to if it works and captivates the target audience.  As my boss is fond of saying, its got to contain just the right balance of “head” stuff – conc
